You can download and install plug-ins or libraries to add extra functionality to Audacity. Plug-ins can give you extra effects, or more audio generation and analysis capability. Adding libraries can allow you to import or export additional audio formats.
Plug-in Installation
Installation instructions for plug-ins are provided in the Audacity manual. Note that the instructions vary according to platform (Windows / Mac / Linux) and the type of plug-in.
Nyquist Plug-ins
Audacity has built-in support for Nyquist effects on all operating systems. You can download additional Nyquist plug-ins, or create your own using the Nyquist programming language. Nyquist code can be conveniently tested using “Nyquist Prompt” under the Effect menu.
LV2 Plug-ins
Audacity has built-in support for LV2 plug-ins, which are an extensible successor of LADSPA effects. LV2 plug-ins are mostly built for Linux, but Audacity supports LV2 on all operating systems. To install LV2 plug-ins, place them in the system LV2 location then use the Plug-ins Manager to enable the new plug-ins as in the plug-in installation instructions.
VST Plug-ins
Audacity can load VST effects (but not VST instruments) on all operating systems. The VST Enabler is no longer required. Install the VST effects to the Audacity Plug-Ins folder on Windows, to ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins on OS X/macOS or to system locations. Then use the Plug-ins Manager to enable the new plug-ins as in the plug-in installation instructions above.

Audio Unit Plug-ins
On Mac OS X only, you can add Audio Unit plug-ins to the system plug-in directories (Audacity will not recognize any Audio Units in its own “plug-ins” folder). Then use the Plug-ins Manager to enable the new plug-ins and any required Apple Audio Units as in the plug-in installation instructions above.
Module Plug-ins
Experimental modules offer a further way to extend Audacity with new features.

VST effects are supported by Audacity on OS X and GNU/Linux, but relatively few are available on Mac (due to Apple's competing Audio Units technology) and even fewer on Linux. If a specific VST effect is required on Linux, it may be necessary to employ workarounds such as running Audacity for Windows in a virtual machine.

On Windows and Mac OS X, Audacity is a 32-bit application so won't see 64-bit versions of VST plug-ins, even on 64-bit operating systems.
On GNU/Linux, 32-bit systems will have 32-bit versions of Audacity which won't see 64-bit VST plug-ins. 64-bit systems will have 64-bit versions of Audacity which will see 64-bit VST plug-ins but won't see 32-bit plug-ins.
VST instruments (VSTi) (such as synths) and real-time VST effects (that change the audio data while playing or recording) are not yet supported.
VST 3 plug-ins are not supported.
VST effects are displayed with full GUI interface (where provided by the plug-in), and without need of the VST Enabler. This has been made possible by use of an open source VST header.
For instructions on how to load new VST effects into Audacity please see this page in the Manual.
The overwhelming majority of VST effect plug-ins should display and process correctly. If an incompatible VST plug-in does cause a problem, click the Manage button in the effect's dialog then choose 'Options...'. In the dialog that appears, try reducing Buffer Size, disabling Latency Compensation or disabling graphical display. See VST Effect Options in the Manual for more information on these choices.

If you are new to the music industry, don’t have enough budget to spend on saxophone vst. paid software, then here is the list of free versions that just click away.
If you’ve been producing music for a while, you probably know that a lot of the commercial guitar VSTs or libraries out there are pretty expensive and not always easy to use. Although I own a few commercial guitar libraries, I also wanted to see what free guitar VSTs and sample libraries are available these days. I have to admit I was surprised by the number of interesting instruments I found. So, I’ve put together this list to talk about the best ones.
For this article, I looked at both acoustic and electric guitars but left out guitar amps and other effect plugins (I will cover these in an upcoming article).

Ample Sound: Ample Guitar M II Lite

Ample Sound is a Beijing-based company that has been creating guitar and bass VSTs since 2011. The Ample Guitar M II series aims “to bring the Martin D-41 Acoustic Guitar sound to your studio.” Luckily for us, the company also released a free lite version of the instrument, which comes with a reduced sample rate, fewer articulations and features and a lower sample count than the original (by now, version III has been released already).
This doesn’t prevent Ample Guitar M II Lite from being the best sounding (non-Kontakt) acoustic guitar in this list, though. The samples sound full and lively and can be triggered directly through MIDI (or your DAW) as well as through a built-in sequencer, the “strummer.”
The strummer makes it super easy to build patterns out of single notes, up and down strokes and mutes. Additionally, there are a bunch of effects and features available to change the tone. One of my favorite features is the doubling switch, which adds width to the instrument in an instant.
Another particular useful feature of Ample Guitar M II Lite is that it shows you which string corresponds to the note you’re playing. This quickly helped me create more realistic arpeggios.
If you also use Guitar Pro Tab, you can even import your tabs into Ample Guitar M II Lite. Note that you are limited to the first four frets of each string when you’re using the lite version.
There are so many fully functioning knobs and switches in this free plugin that I didn’t manage to get to all of them in my 45 minutes of playing around with it. What more can you ask for in a free guitar?

This guitar VST has gotten a lot of attention lately, especially since the release of LifeStyleDidIt’s video “I FOUND THE BEST FREE GUITAR VST” (see below). DSK Music is a project by a Spaniard named Víctor who has been making hundreds of free virtual instruments since 2002.
DynamicGuitars contains three different instruments: an acoustic guitar, a nylonguitar and a steel guitar. It also offers control over the envelope of thesamples as well as the dynamic range and the voice mode (poly, mono, legato). All the included guitars feel smooth, warm andthick but could use a little EQ action for clarity.

Yummy Beats: Modest Guitar

Yummy Beats is a platform for drums, loops and Kontakt instruments. You can also find a few free instruments on this site, including the free Modest Guitar. This Kontakt library delivers a present sound with round robin and three articulations: acoustic guitar, flageolets and fx guitar. Unfortunately, I found that the fx guitar produced noticeable crackle sounds (might have been my setup!). However, my favorite part is the flageolets with their well-rounded tone, anyway.
I found the steps to get Modest Guitar a little complicated. You have to open a Yummy Beats account, go to this page and enter the unlock code that you find here. If you’re looking for a free, quality flageolet sound, this is a good instrument to try out, though.

Originally, the guitar was sampled by Christian Henson in 2006 and, according to him, was used all over his scores. The instrument consists of three presets that differ slightly in guitar tone. Each guitar feels soft and comes with a long release, which adds to the atmosphere of the instrument. I want to add a new plugin search path in the Fl Studio Plugin Manager for some VST3 only plugins. However when I select the folder on my hard drive, it is instead identified as VST and not VST3 (see screenshot, last folder). There is not even an option to mark the folder as VST3 only. Free Trap Vst Plugins Fl Studio
In this guide, I am going to show you how to add a Vst plugin that is not part of the content or stock Vst’s that comes loaded with Fl Studio 12.
Fl Studio uses a format for these sounds called Vst or Virtual Studio Instrument. That means if you are purchasing or downloading a Vst plugin, you need to make sure you are being provided Vst formatted instruments.
Create A Custom Vst Folder
Let’s quickly get to adding Vst instrument in Fl Studio
1) Before importing Vsts, there are few things to do;
i) Create a custom Vst folder On your desktop(you can create it anywhere if you know what you are doing, if you don’t know, then follow me along).
Vst’s Own Installer
ii) Run the Vsts own installer, it should be included with your package e.g kontakt.exe, Spire.msi, when running Vsts own installer you should be asked to select the install location during the process. Select the folder you created.
iii)For plugins without installer, copy the files including the .dll(e.g Guitar mik.dll) file to the folder you created.
Note i) If you downloaded a Vst plugin that requires extraction (e.g Nexus.rar that contains only .dll), just extract them to the custom folder and make sure they are in .dll, if it is not in .dll, open the folder that came along with the file and you should see .dll extension in the folder.

I have Addictive Drums 2 and Studio One 3 Pro and can not get Studio one to 'see' AD2. Both programs work fine on their own. I can't find any info on how to do this in the manuals or online. The default Installation path of AD2 is C:Program DataXLN AudioAddictive Drums 2Sound Data Should this path be set to something else? There are folders called c:Program FilesPreSonusStudio One 33rd Party and c:Program FilesPreSonusStudio One 3Plugins.. I tried setting the installation path to both of these and restarting studio one each time, neither seemed to work. It's frustrating that there is so little info on how to do this stuff. I have seen a couple of videos of people using them together so I think it can work.

Usually the drum apps load the 'Standalone' and the a 'Plugin' version, I would guess you just need to point to the VST (plugin) path. Not having AD2 I cannot give you the direct path. Usual locations are 'C:Program FilesVstplugins' for 64 bit, 'C:Program Files (x86)VstPlugins' for 32bit. Now that is the normal places for VST's However some will install to 'C:Program FilesSteinbergVstPlugins' When installing the VI instrument it usually asks/tells you were it will get installed to. Anyway what I am getting to is once you have found where it lives you need to tell Studio One the path by going to locations from the Preferences tab and adding a path to it. I am sure someone with AD2 will be alone soon to point you to the right spot. Good luck! P.S. BTW I have quoted the method for PC.

OBS 18 Keeps crashing when using VST plugins. Plugin work fine but: Type 1: Obs crash on exit every time with VST plugin 'pitchproof' enabled. Type 2: When disabling plugin in sound filter, Obs will crash like when it exiting. Note: After remove plugin it will save sound filter setting (some times not), but others don't. Logs: obs crashes. Crashes related to Open UI, on very slow PC happens more frequently.
